First DIY Wall Art Idea: Textured Abstract Wall Art
Using only five supplies, I created a set of textured wall art for our large, empty living room wall. Inspired by Emily Jeffords, I let my creative juices flow and had fun with texture, color and kitchen spices? Yes!
Find the step by step tutorial and supply list on the full post I have shared here.
Second: Gallery Wall
“Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love”-Nate Berkus
I whole heartedly agree with this quote, and what better way to tell a story or show off what (and who) you love than a gallery wall? Wedding photos, baby photos, vacation photos. A gallery wall is a great way to display all these memories in an organized manner, while taking up a good bit of space.
There are so many variations you can try when creating a gallery wall. I chose a cohesive set of black frames, with a mixture of black & white and color photographs. This set of frames is timeless and budget conscious. I’ve shared a supply list with the frames linked, as well as a tutorial to help you print, organize, and hang the gallery wall with ease.
Another few highlights include how to hang the frames evenly, and how to achieve and keep a straight hang. I’ve shared these tips and more here.
Third DIY Wall Art Idea: Large Scale Canvas Art
So in addition to all the DIY wall art options above, I finally chose an art option for the dining room that was NOT do-it-yourself. Well, not entirely.
Historically, I shy away from art because of the price tag. I think art can be a great investment, and I love to support independent artists. But in our first home due to all of the other large scale DIY’s we’ve done, the art budget was pretty low.
Luckily, I found a way to add large scale wall art inside one of my custom picture frame moulding boxes to not only fill space, but add some color.
Learn more about where to source digital art downloads, affordably print on canvas, and get a quality frame all for under $200. The print above is 30×40, and helps fill a large wall and bring color to help tie different elements of the room together.
Fourth: Framed Intaglio Art
What exactly is an Intaglio? The word “Intaglio” can be used as either a noun or a verb. As a verb, Intaglio is the art of engraving or impressing an image (usually a face or a scene) into a medium such as plaster. As a noun, Intaglio is the piece of work created. The word is Italian, and became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. Intaglios were commonly sold as European souvenirs, mounted into books, jewelry and even sometimes framed.
Today, Intaglio art is still popular and usually pretty pricey. I love the look, and decided to find a way to make my own. Find the full supply list as well as step by step directions here so you can create your own budget wall art.
Fifth DIY Wall Art Idea: Large Mirror
Last but not least, sharing an idea that mayyy be a bit of a stretch as far as wall art goes. But a mirror can reflect parts of your home that are thoughtfully sources just like art.
Mirrors are known to bring light to your space, and make your room feel larger. A mirror is a perfect choice for any wall in any room. I have large mirrors in the living room, dining room, and bedrooms. I typically find affordable, large mirrors at Kirklands, Overstock and Wayfair. You can see a few I have chosen and linked here.
